Both places have good points and bad points. In general, I'd say a person would be lucky to live in either city.

I'd give the edge to Los Angeles based on the following:

1) LA is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the world (by some measures THE most diverse).
2) LA has vastly superior arts & culture including world class art museums.
3) LA is far more diverse with regards to geography: beaches, mountains, deserts all close by.
4) LA has more varied and eclectic architecture (not JUST art deco treasures in So Beach).
5) LA is a magnet for muscians and as a result MUCH BETTER live music scene (every kind of music you could imagine).
6) LA has vastly superior universities: UCLA, Cal Tech, and USC.
7) LA has very COMFORTABLE summers (not like sticky, humid Miami).
8) More ecelectic neighborhoods in LA with great restaurants, art galleries, and architecture: Venice Beach, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Silverlake, etc.

On the other hand, I'd give Miami the edge in the following:
1) Winter weather is nearly perfect in Miami.
2) That warm ocean water is fantastic.
3) Love the white sands of Miami beaches.
4) Less traffic than LA.
5) Less smog than LA.

The winner for me is Los Angeles. But I wouldn't complain if I lived in Miami. Having lived in LA most of my life, I occasionally get the urge to pick up and move to Miami. I have visited there and really like it. Just think that Miami is more LIMITED than LA.

Your crazy as hell, Miami has nightlife.. but not even close to LA.
LA is RAW in the club scene... while Miami is... fun.

Miami has a world famous 24/7 night life which people from all over the world come just to go out to south beach. Miami has a much better night life than LA.

To the topic both are great cities to live in, I would rather live in Miami for a few reasons:
Better winters, (I can deal with the humid summers)
A lot less traffic
Not as huge, sometimes I just feel like LA is just too big
Much nicer beaches and water.
#1 reason Miami has very clean air
Also the weather in LA is boring. ( I like weather)
But I would live in either of them in a second.
My top 3 cities to live in the US would be
1. Miami 2. DC 3. LA

LA It's a city in a Backpack or should i say All in One Package with the beach,Mountains,Theme Parks,Hollywood,Lakers,Safe coastal communities,THe OC in the corner, food,Dining,Beautiful women,Not just mexican but from alot of other races unlike Miami where the major raise is mexican/cuban.LA has Fillipino,Mex,Asian(all of them),Blondes.I'm sure Miami does to but not on the same level as LA.I Think all of So cal has Beautiful Women from different Races.Just my Opinoin,Don't argue with me over this.
