The numbers speak. Look, Houston has big bayous that are not built up around, but Los Angeles has huge mountainous/hilly regions in it's city limit which cannot be developed either.
looks like you can't read. I said BUILT densely; not talking about population density. Nice try though. Btw, It seems Houston's population density went up, impressive. Are those numbers recent?

REALLY??? I guess Houston being 601 sqm and NY's suburbs being like 1 sqm isn't really much a difference when I think about it.

Let me just address something else, Houston as a whole isn't dense, but the majority of it's residental areas are built very dense with little yards and narrow streets, even in the suburbs it is like this.

The density figure is current. Here is an interesting link about density of Houston relative to other big cities (this is a few years old).

http://www.houstontx.gov/planning/Co...ow_density.pdf

Houston has over 2x the land area of Chicago. I guess it just goes to show that city limit lines are arbitrary, especially when considering Houston and Phoenix.

Just an interesting tidbit:

The population density per square mile--

The town I'm moving to on Long Island, 10 miles outside the city: 7,630

Houston: 3,699

city limits are so big thats why is population is big and places philadelphia who only has 135 miles and has oover a million people I wonder what philly pop would be like if it had 601 square miles of land in its city limits

I guess that is why MSA's are more accurate measures of size.

I am so over hearing the word 'density' thrown out as the new end-all and be-all of the perfect city. It is replacing 'diversity' as the most annoying word on the forum.
