You said it yourself: NJ was cheaper than NYC. And that same expensive-less expensive dynamic is one of the major factors behind Northerners migrations to SC today.

Oh and saying SC is more dangerous than NJ is meaningless. Both states have cities and neighborhoods you would be a fool to go in at night (sometimes during the day). See bad parts of Newark and North Charleston. If you have the income and common sense in either state then crime will probably not be an issue. Face it, a state vs state population statistic is about as meaningless as a city-proper population statistic.

P.S. My apologies to the rational people on this thread for digging it up. But just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in...

Mhmm, i don't think you got what i said
People move to SC from the north for the most part because it's cheaper and it's place to get away from it all, PERIOD.
People moved to NJ because of top universities, job opportunities, and it's relatively closer to and cheaper than NYC and or Philly.
All different reasons for the most part.

And again, the state of SC is a lot worst than NJ... NJ major cities may be worst, but when it comes to comparing state crime.. SC takes the lead..... In being worst

And the comment about "pulling me back in"... well you got "pulled back" about 2 weeks ago... why bring it back up again?

Totally agree with you. I used to hate NJ because of the high cost of living. Now I am in SC (Columbia) for a short term job. What a shock when I first arrived here. The city is completely different from what some people on the SC board described. I don't feel this is a city, it looks like a deserted small town, so old, nothing attractive.

Better beaches too, nothing like the Jersey shore
Nah I used to live in Willingboro when I was a kid. A lot of obnoxious people in Jersey. And the weather sucks. But South Carolina..Sweet smelling magnolias, azalea gardens, spanish moss hanging off large oak trees, nice anteblleum style mansions with veranda porches, genteel people, the delicious food.. Heck, I'll take a nice day at the beach at the Isle of Palms over the Jersey shore any day of the week.

NJ wouldn't even be a state if New York didn't exist.

LOL....the only reason NJ has money is because of NY...It's similar to Virginia, probably around 70% of the money in the state comes from the DC area.

You should move down south and buy you a house or you rather stay in your compact building up north and catch a bus everywhere!

NJ does not have money because of NY. NJ is a state of its own and its capable providing for its state. I take it that you have never been to NJ.
