It takes generations of tolerance and acceptance for changes to take place. The more people stay in their subcultures the longer it'll take to mend.

I would have to say that my great state of Texas outside Houston/Dallas/Austin is really racist. Especially the panhandle (wasn't the KKK headquartered there?), West Texas, Central Texas, and some parts of East Texas (Jasper was really notorious 10 years ago)

The KKK used to be based in Indiana, you know.

Source?

Not arguing there was never a presence. Ignorant rednecks can be found everywhere. Just because some hilljacks in Martinsville wore Klan robes back in the day doesn't make the state a hotbed for the Klan yesterday or today, anymore than any other place they've shown up.

Does the Klan even advertise its national headquarters?

I don't know if they advertize anything but I want to say it's in Cour de Lane (sp!), Idaho.

My source is the History Channel (love that show!). And I want to say this was during the 1920's, 1930's or 1940's. Long time ago, I know, but surprising for a Northern state!

In the 1920's era, the Klan had a presense here, but Indiana was never anything close to the Klan's base.

Indiana also prosecuted the leader of the Indiana KKK in 1925, and other members of the KKK. It is not as though the KKK ran the state, or has any significant presense today. Michigan has had more recent incidents involving the KKK than Indiana does. Should we now declare Michigan as a racist place?
