I'd also like you to read the terms of service from the moderator above and reflect on it.

Now, again, can we focus on real New York City issues here?
Let's see. 32 replies here. 76 replies in Chicago (you, who doesn't care, posted there too). A poll in General US with 59 replies. Yet nobody cares. Maybe YOU say you don't care, but many other people obviously do care. If YOU don't care, then why are you posting on this thread? Why not go to another thread that is on a topic YOU do care about instead of trying to kill our discussion because YOU don't like it.

Please do stop being a killjoy. As for threatening me with "THE TERMS OF SERVICE," please note that is a signature line of the moderator that appears on all her posts.

Yes it is a real NYC issue. They are using a fictional city to try and steal our 200 year old nickname. This reminds me of when NJ tried to steal the Statue of Liberty from us. Will Chicago be trying to call itself the "New Big Apple" next? Why aren't their own nicknames good enough for them?

You NY'ers are starting to look and sound VERY insecure, almost petty....

It's a fact, that Obama's house in Chicago, is where the Batman's 'spotlight' is located. Only Obama and Mayor Daley have access to it!...

For me, NY has always and will always be gotham. You make two movies in Chicago and they want to claim everything. I know from the originator of "Gotham", that Gotham was really NY, but only called it "Gotham" so that other cities could identify. He pulled the name from a NYC phonebook. I bet he is wishing he had called it NY now since so many cocky Chicagoins act like it is theirs now. I heard statements like, " Gotham has always been Chicago". What! I felt like I was in nevernever land. I mean seriously, ALWAYS been Chicago. Come on. Get real. Gotham if it is any city in this country it is NY. What is the deal with some Chicagoins arrogance lately?

Maybe there is a reason Hollywood is in LA, Wall Street, Broadway are in NY. Can you imagine if any of these things were in Chicago, we would never hear the end of it.

Anyway, God forbid anyone put a smaller statue of "the statue of liberty" in chicago, they would assume it and we would never hear the end of it.

I know it might seem like I am ranting. I usually sit back with anything Chicago vs NY and let others argue it out. I always give due respect to Chicago because it is a great city. But I feel like I've seen enough. Some people from Chicago are getting downright dellusional. Everyone in NY knows that "Gotham" is New York through and through. I just wish Chicagoins understood this.

Anyone feel a bit put off by the mighty arrogance of some "Chicagoins" trying to claim "Gotham"?

Who do you think Gotham is more like NY or Chicago?

Who do you NY'ers think is "Gotham"?
They have inferiority complex, there is only one Gotham NYC. The day Chicago is comparable to NYC then we will have this discussion. Until then, they can keep dreaming.

Let's wait and see whether anyone from another city tries to claim Father Knickerbocker, as well. (For those who may not be familiar with him, he was a fictional personalization of New York City dating back at least to the 18th century. Sort of a precursor to Uncle Sam, actually.)

The original post stated:

"I just saw the Dark Knight and noticed it was filmed in Chicago. I think I remember the other Batman movies being in New York City. Which city do you think was best for the movie? I think the New York City version of Gotham was flashier (in a good way) and Chicago version of Gotham was darker (in a good way)"

I believe the question revolves around which city is better for firming the movie, not which city is the true Gotham.

Washington Irving, one of the first American authors, was the one who jokingly called New York City, Gotham, way back in 1807. He also is credited with Knickerbockers for old fashioned New Yorkers. Anyway I wonder if Chicagoans would be so trying so hard to be the New Gotham City if they knew Gotham means Goat-City or Goat-town in Old English!
