Technically, Phoenix is closer to a beach (217 miles) than Vegas is if you consider Puerto Penasco, MX (Rocky Point).

I wouldn't mind any of these cities on the list. Unlike most, I actually do like desert scenery.

I'd take nay of them. Tucson the most though, but the rest equally. Besides Coachella Valley, I have never heard of that before...

I think El Paso would have been a good addition to this thread and possibly Santa Fe.
