I'm not a fan of crime rates but these numbers don't lie.
Youngstown: 57 per 100,000
Springfield: 9 per 100,000
If this is correct you are 6 times as likely to be killed in Youngstown.

Yeah, those are numbers from 2007.
Similar cities include Compton, Flint, and Gary. They are all around the same size and have almost identical crime.
LOL most backward city ever, there are nice areas surrounding though:

Youngstown Ohio. This place is straight up ghetto. I’m not saying that to be a tough guy or to scare you–that’s just how it is. Youngstown is located in northeast Ohio about an hour from Cleveland or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In the early part of the century Youngstown was a huge steel producer. People immigrated here from all over the world to work in the steel mills of this relatively small city. The Italian mafia realized that Youngstown was a prime location between New York and Chicago so they set up shop. It sounds crazy but the mafia still runs Youngstown to this day. Last year our Sheriff was indicted on racketeering charges. That’s how bad it is. Include crack cocaine and a skyrocketing unemployment rate and you have a pretty screwed up situation. Youngstown was listed as the Deadliest Place in the U.S. by the Wall Street Journal in 1997. That same year Youngstown had the highest per capita murder rate in the United States.

Chester, Pa is one of the most horrid places i Have ever seen and Camden and North Philly are just down right scary. and let me just say that the United States should be ashamed of themselves to be a home to DETROIT....That city needs to be removed off the map.

Just FYI, in 2008, the numbers were about 38 per 100,000. This year, it's looking like we'll be at 32 per 100,000. These certainly remain poor numbers. But take it from a resident; you don't have to worry much about being murdered unless you are associated with drugs or gangs. (I'll also admit that this kind of attitude is what allows these numbers to stay high)

I know exactly what you're talking about it's the same way here for the most part, my neighborhood is similar it's at 41 per 100,000. It's funny because I could here the birds chirping in the morning and crickets at night it's so peaceful a lot of the time, of course we still have those days with the fighting and shooting but it has calmed down since the 80's/90's.
