When I hear "the Bay," I typically think of the Tampa Bay region. But, as others have said, when I heard "the Bay area" I think of San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose.

I've never heard of anyone saying "the bay" but since I'm from California, I think of San Francisco if someone says "the Bay Area." So I am often confused since I moved to Houston and here "the Bay Area" means the Galveston/Clear Lake area.

"the bay" or "bay area" means Tampa to me. But that's probably because I live in Southwest Florida, and have never been to CA.

right, b/c no one ever goes on and on about San Francisco, the wine country, Monterrey, etc...  NorCal gets plenty of respect and admiration but some people there just think they deserve more b/c the world should be revolving around "The Bay". |

Around here, the bay means the Chesapeake. The Bay area means SF
