What kind of question is this??

Of course not. Chicago will never become what Detroit is now. For starters, the economy of Chicago is much more diversified than that of Detroit.

Since when has Chicago become the new Detroit? Yeah, I'm aware Chicago has a lot of neglect and poor infrastructure but saying that it is the new Detroit is really an overexaggeration.

Detroit's daytime population DECREASES...while Chicago's daytime population INCREASES. The Loop is constructing many high-rises especially condos. Chicago's city population decline is stalling...despite the fact that estimates say Chi has been losing people, many people from Chi strongly disagree with all the housing units being contructed. There might be an increase in the city population. Besides, the Chicago metro is growing substantially...it will hit over 10 million ppl anytime soon.

I think the number is 16 is 16 per 100/000 which is the standard way homicide statistics are presented. The stats are based on 2007 FBI data. For comparison, NYC rate is 7 and LA is 10.

Ask somebody who lives at 63rd/Halsted or 119th/Michigan if they think the City is gaining population. Those areas are becoming more and more abandoned. Many minority families are fleeing the city...

Chicago my very well lose population in the next census, but unlike cities like Detroit, housing is being built, and people who, in a place like Detroit would be living in the burbs, are choosing to pay for expensive houses and apartments in the city. The demographics of Chicago are changing in certain parts of the city (I realize that in parts of the south and west sides this is not the case), which may cause a drop in population as families and couples with less children move into larger condos and houses. It appears that the 'good neighborhoods' are being built up, and the 'bad neighborhoods' are emptying out. Additionally, the demographics of the suburbs are changing drastically as well. I recently read an article that stated many new immigrants are increasingly going straight to the suburbs rather than settling in the city as they have historically done. These days, one finds that some suburbs are vastly more diverse than many chicago neighborhoods.

I've been to both. Nothing in common I can see. Detroit looks as bad as Berlin post war. No disrespect intended and I find this tragic but true. But Chicago is beautiful.
