Portland has an "Outdoorsy" feel..but these cities aren't really comparable,at all.

I love L.A.

That said...
Give me clean air, mountains I can actually see, and potable tap water ANY day.

Portland.

LA is a huge city with a lot of nature (although I don't think of it as an "outdoorsy" city in terms of culture, at least not in terms of hiking and all of that, but nature is definitely there if you want it). Portland is a smaller city with a lot of nature. I like a very urban environment and all of the amenities of a big city so I go with LA.

I agree that these cities are a weird comparison. If you prefer a Portland-size city you arent' going to like LA, and vice-versa.

Both cities are nice and have much to offer, but in different ways. I like visiting Portland, but wouldn't choose to live there.

these aren't really comparable but for outdoor enthusiast I think Portland takes the prize there. That's where Portland finds the nearest exit sign and leaves this post as LA would smash Portland in every other comparision.
