Seeing downtown LA's skid row in the early morning was a shock - there are literally tents everywhere lining the streets. The buildings themselves aren't as run down as what you'll find in some other areas (and it overlaps with a busy commercial wholesale district that opens up during the day), but the tent city is pretty impressive in a depressing kind of way.
