1.) NYC (although I do feel like many trends originate on the West Coast and then make their way east...but come one, it's NYC)

2.) LA

3.) Washington D.C.

4.) San Francisco

5.) Chicago

Not surprisingly, these are 5 of the biggest metro areas in the country.

1.) NEW YORK CITY--obviously

2.) LA--again, obviously

3) WASHINGTON DC--so important politically it makes its way to #3. Also has singificant cultural and economic influence.

4) SAN FRANCISCO--love it or hate it, has been very important culturally (60's, San Francisco values, etc...) Also has a huge metro region including Berkeley, Oakland, Silicon Valley...

5) BOSTON--Historically, it is a foundation for our country. Very important in the public consciousness and has signficantg cultural and economic influence

Honorable mention: Chicago, Dallas

I think for number 5 politically you could add Denver.

Why Denver Politically?

I would think San Francisco. As they always pushed the tide on cultural revolutions that in effect changed politics.

That's very true, I just was under the impression that there was a lot of government stuff housed in Denver and the whole thing about it being the "backup capital" (if there's any truth to that).
