St. Paul is less than half of Milwaukee's population, and Minneapolis proper is also much smaller. To compare Milwaukee to St. Paul is really kind of silly.

No it's not, neither in population or land area.

MSP = 648,595 (and this from the lowball, disputed figure. The Metro council would bump this up by around 10-15,000)

Milwaukee = 604,000

I think we all know that despite being a wonderfully diverse metropolis, Chicago doesn't come close to Miami in terms of international presence and appeal.

I see. So Milwaukee proper has a larger black population than Chicago or New York, based on percentages. Gotcha.

I like Bloomington Il, Champaign, Il, Madison, Wi, Des Moines, Ia, Cedar Rapids, Ia, and Battle Creek, Mi.

I love smaller midwestern cities with lots of charm. When I lived in Chicago, I used to drive out to smaller cities in the Midwest and spend an afternoon. When youre in a large city, you cant really feel the character of the reigion, you can in smaller towns.

what are we splitting hairs here? include Milwaukee est. illegals of 30,000 and we are right there. I think the point being msp is basically the same size as Milwaukee. Since Milwaukee is on a great lake we don't have 360 degrees available for growth. Milwaukee can only grow westward. either way the twin cities overall is still bigger by at least a million.

The central cities are similar in size, that's not my point. Milwaukee "isn't bigger than Mpls and STP combined" however; and of course, there are illegals in Mpls and STP as well.

Hey Chicago still grew, and they're on a lake too...it's all about the size of the city limits and the growth that occurred since then. Mpls and St. Paul haven't annexed land in over a century, but Milwaukee has within the last 50-60 years.

Kansas City is easily the coolest midwestern city. It's incredibly scenic with gigantic hills akin to San Francisco, it's got a great lively downtown and tons of unique distinctive districts like the Jazz district (where charlie parker and count basie made jazz what it is), the plaza district with amazing old world architecture and upscale shops and restaurants, and the Power & Light District has the best night life anywhere in the midwest. It's also got the best BBQ in world! KC rules!

Default kind of a contradiction, don't you think?

Cool AND in the Midwest? Not sure that is possible in this country anyway.

I have thought and thought and I really can only come up with 2 places in the Midwest that would be fantastic places in anyone's book: Chicago and Madison. Maybe Ann Arbor or Lincoln. I can't think of anywhere else. Obviously anyone who lives there could make a case for places like St. Louis or Minneapolis--- but I am talking about towns that would make a nationwide top 10 list for desirable, cool places.

Thoughts?

It appears dementor has decided to dust off one of his former, soon-to-be-banned, troll-aliases.
