I did, however suspect Chicago and Toronto would pull well ahead from the others. There are obviously some big-city folk here...

What about Duluth??? Lived there for 8 months and actually enjoyed it. Hated the weather but the food and people were great.

Well your limit of a metro area of 1 million really limits the choices. Personally None of them if they are that sized I really don't like that many people in one area and that much traffic. But given that limit, I would pick Grand Rapids, MI. Just on the line for the low end of the population. Huge city would of course be Chicago.

Real answer would be right where I am now. Scottville, MI population 1200. Just right for my family. Close enough to Grand Rapids we go when we want, but don't deal with the BS every single day if we don't want to, and far enough away it doesn't come here looking for fresh pickings either.
