I was wondering if any of you have traveled the south and have a favorite second tier city that you DO NOT live in, my personal favorite's are Savannah and Charleston SC., the beauty of those two just can't be beat.

yes savannah is beautiful, lived there for 2 years. Nashville and Chatanooga are pretty nice as well as knoxville, if you like a little mountain. Stay clear of memphis, lived there awhile, very dangerous these days...down town anyway. I live in montana now, but know the south very well. Savannah, would be tops for me.
Just for the record, I consider the second tier Southern cities to be Richmond, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Raleigh, Charlotte, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, Birmingham, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth, Louisville, and Oklahoma City. The third tier would include cities like Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Durham, Greenville, Columbia, Charleston, Augusta, Savannah, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Baton Rouge, Little Rock, Jackson, etc.
My favorite 2nd tier southern cities are Nashville, Austin, St. Petersburg. I really love the downtown architecture and layout of Savannah and Charleston, but to me I prefer the waterfront parks and natural beauty and bikeability of my top 3 to that of Savannah and Charleston.

That's interesting as I think Nashville's waterfront sucks, especially when compared to those of even smaller cities (e.g., Chattanooga).
I think I might like Austin or Tampa. I think I might mix better with Austin because it would remind me more of home in the QC. In the third tier I have to go with the SC metros of Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville, with the greater edge going to Greenville.
