I doubt Dallas will pass Chicago's MSA. Chicago area has some of the fastest growing counties in the country.

I could see PHX (high doubt it though) passing Houston and ATL (good chance) passing Houston's MSA.

Dallas 2.3 Million
Las Vegas 2.0 Million

You are right for the top ten except for Las Vegas. For the 10th spot it will be a toss up between Indianapolis , Columbus Ohio ( both continue to grow) and perhaps San Francisco , Boston or DC ( gentrification).

For 2050, I have little doubt that NYC will remain the biggest in the country in terms of both the MSA and city proper.

The LA CSA has a chance of overtaking the NYC CSA but it still has a long way to go and a lot can happen to thwart this:
-slowing LA growth rates
-a steady high flux of immigrants into NYC
-proportionately higher birth rates reflecting NYC's larger population
-a combined NYC metro/Philadelphia metro CSA
- New Yorker transplants that return from other states, namely Florida.

Dallas MSA has a very good chance of passing Chicago MSA. By 2050 the too metro areas will at least half be seperated by a small margin.

I can almost agree with you on there but by 2030 the city is suppose to have almost 10 million. Another 20 years would probably be 10.2-11. If we look at the plans for each city and metro area NYC has a possible chance of still being the largest. The mayor is redeveloping about 100 neighborhoods and business districts and squares across thee city. This includes new homes and affordable housing. Also plans of greening NYC and providing more transportation services. This in the long run will attract more people. This is just NYC. Alot of cities and counties in the area are trying to improve their areas with more business and homes. For Example the city my grandmother lives in, Yonkers, has major revitalization projects such as its main mall, (is being redeveloped and brand new stores are opening up as well the Macys in the mall is going to be like another flagship store) its dowtown(with new luxury condos and stores already built with plans of a giant baseball complex with a new stadium, hotels, condos, stores, etc. ), and its most famous new neighborhood project Ridge Hill, etc all in a small very hilly city of 18 sq mi.

I think NYC will definetly still be the largest city in the US. I just don't see any city overtaking NYC in population. Now Metro wise is a different story.

Well we are talking 2050. If DFW continues to grow like it is, its a possibility.
