I think its clear New Orleans and Detroit have the worst reputation for crime out of all these cities. Throw in Baltimore as well.

Due to media scrutiny and the published reports, the first thing many think of associated with these three cities are the high murder and crime rates. For the rest of the cities listed, there are other things more commonly associated with them (not just crime and murders).

I went with Philly with last summers murder spree, and stories about how the cops were going so far as putting people on foot patrol through the neighborhoods to help curb crime.

In California, its Oakland.

But with good reason though, we have the highest crime rate in the state. Er, Go Us.(jk)

Oakland has a crime problem, but it gets a really horrible reputation for crime because of the media and San Francisco being its next door neighbor. San Francisco's crime problem is pushed under the rug and they say just look at Oakland when in reality SF has a significant problem with crime too. I agree also with one poster from above that Bmore, Detroit, and New Orleans have horrible reps for crime also.

I think cities like Compton & Camden are strictly known for crime & violence

New Orleans is known for French Quarters
New York is known for being the Big Apple
Los Angeles is known for Entertainment
Detroit is known for GM
Chicago is known for The American City

But i think when you hear about Compton , Camden and Even Oakland you automatically associate it with crime because these cities arent known for anything else

On that list, Chicago.

My home is pretty dismissed, Newark.
Its what rakes the money in for the state of NJ and it runs a lot of the NYC metro... and yes, there's mansions and big yards too for a lot of the people who think that's whats important......
