LOL @ saying Logan Square isn't gentrified. Wicker Park has grown so much that new development is beginning to spill over into surrounding neighborhoods like Logan Square and Bucktown.
It's pretty clear this Osito character carries an eighty pound anti-Chicago chip. The fact that she/he gets very few facts straight-- combined by his/her overt willingness to manipulate what other posters said to their pat agenda-- makes debating (in their case-- arguing and criticizing) fairly worthless.

LOL, none of these areas are gentrified.

A handful of art school hipsters do not make an entire neighborhood gentrified.

Some are immigrant neighborhoods (Logan Square, Albany Park), some are ghetto lite (Uptown, Rogers Park) and some are semi-suburban (Jeff Park, Forest Glen).

Oh, and BTW -- have you ever set foot in any of these areas-- i.e., West Town, Logan Square, Edgewater, Uptown, Rogers Park, West Ridge, North Park, Albany Park, Irving Park, Norwood Park, Jefferson Park, and Forest Glen? To be more clear, have you visited any of these areas with your eyes, ears and mind open? While they may not be the Gold Coast, many are desirable areas, not only for "art school hipsters" but for young professionals, families, etc. Open your mind and feel free to learn what some of these Chicago (and knowledgeable) posters are telling you. Regardless of what you think, they offer a lot of first-hand knowledge.

Umm, are you a kid posting from the exurbs? Were you even born in 1996?

Why not stroll over to where Cabrini Green supposedly doesn't exist??

Try 3AM tonight, and tell the thugs standing in front of the lowrises (none of which will be demolished) that they "don't exist."

The highrises are being demolished (but many still exist) and the residents are all staying in the neighborhood, in new mixed-income housing.
The lowrises are not being touched.

Again, you really need to first get your drivers license and head down into the city.

Bucktown is MORE gentrified than Wicker Park, and is totally different from the Logan Square barrio.

Logan Square is primarily Puerto Rican. Yes, it has hipsters, but so does Detroit. It doesn't mean it is primarily hipster or yuppie.

You mean like disputing the claim that Cabrini Green doesn't exist, and is really only a figment of my imagination??

Cabrini Green, for all intents and purposes, no longer exists. The vast majority of the C-G housing complexes have either been demolished or are being phased out. The area directly abutting C-G is regenerated with middle class (and some expensive) townhomes, complete with many new commercial and spec developments.

100% Lie. It's as big as ever.

100% Lie.

Only the highrises are being demolished. 100% of lowrises remain, and ALL highrise residents are staying in the neigborhood (if they so choose) in the new housing that's being built.

A dude just got killed in the elevator shafts of one of the Cabrini Green buildings. I guess the Trib made this up, right?

True, but irrelevent.

And the area isn't really that safe, just because a few townhouses were built during the recent boom.

Not many people want to live next to a dangerous slum like Cabrini Green. They will live close, but not too close.

Well let's see... here's a condo for sale in the Slums of Cabrini Green for the giveaway price of $300 per square foot. Here's another $350 per square foot. Here's another for $345/sqft. One wonders how people can live in such squalor.

Drover, you another exurbanite?

Cabrini Green doesn't have condos. It doesn't have anything for sale (besides drugs & guns)! It only has rentals, and they are only for the super-poor.

Cabrini Green is CHA, or Chicago Housing Authority. It's a giant housing project.

Yes, there are luxury condos close to Cabrini Green, in Old Town, and River North, but the closer you get, the lower the price, because there are serious safety and quality-of-life considerations when your neighbors are thugs.

Oh, and $300 a foot asking price is a high price for Old Town and River North?? Gee, the market must suck!

None of the condo listings I linked are in Old Town or River North.

Cabrini-Green is also the name of the neighborhood around the projects. Additionally, the CHA is selling condos in mixed-income buildings at market rate.

Since you clearly don't know what the hell you're talking about, you might want to consider shutting up.

Since you won't take my word (or any other poster trying to point out facts, here's a link with some C-G info. I'm lazy, this is the first link that came up. However, by all means, feel free to do some research for yourself: Cabrini-Green - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
