Denver by FAR. Being born and raised in the south, I HATE intense summer humidity. And Texas summers are even worse that MOST places in the south.

As far as the city amenities, Denver has a much more extensive bike trail system, and I think a much nicer downtown, everything being really within walking distance and amenities like nice riverfront parks, 16th street mall, 2nd largest performing arts complex, 3 pro sports venues, and Rocky Mountain scenery on top of it. Add in the extra perks like Red Rocks Park and all the town centers built in the suburbs and all the ample park space throughout the city, and I favor Denver.

Denver's downtown can be very very quiet in some days. Check this out. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...=697090&page=2 On pages 2 and 4, there are some shots of downtown Denver. Most of these photos are devoid of a single person there.

Houston:
1. 4th largest city in the U.S. and 6th largest metro (soon to be 5th)
2. Home to NASA/ Space Center Houston.
3. Diverse ethnic population. Diverse restaurant scene. Over 90 languages spoken.
4. Great weather for 8 months out of the year but extremely hot and humid from mid May thru about mid September.
5. Access to beach and waterfront areas, beaches, and water sport activities in Galveston, Kemah Boardwalk, and Clear Lake.
6. Downtown revitalization: 2 sports facilites downtown and 1 just 5 miles south of downtown. Main Street club scence at night. Discovery Green.
7. Has the largest Medical Center in the World.
8. The Galleria- in the top 5 largest malls in the country. Has an excellent shopping scene and very unique stores that you can't find except in CA and NYC.
9. Theatre District Downtown
10. Green city

Denver:
1. Great Downtown activity (16th Street Mall, LoDo, and six Flags downtown)
2. Clean air for a big city
3. Beautiful scenery
4. Access to skiing and mountains, hiking.
5. Great lightrail
6. Great access to parks.
7. Quick access to Blackhawk (Casino resort)
8. Upscale areas like Cherry Creek
9. Great spring and summer weather (but brutal cold and snowstorms in Winter and as late as Spring)

I know i left off a lot out on both cities but i know posters from each city can extrapolate. I currently live in Houston right now and lived in Colorado pretty much all my life (22 years).

I love both places for each of their qualities. Me and my fiance are considering moving to Denver to be closer to our moms in Colorado Springs.

I'd like to hear opinions and try not to bash other people's city!

A lot of people dealing with July heat and humidity are looking very favorably at Denver with it's cooler drier air right now. But what about in the late fall, winter, and early spring when Houston is enjoying gorgeous weather but Denver may or may not be dealing with brutal cold, and nasty icy weather. I get the feeling that if you gave this same comparison in December you would get different results.

Houston you don't stand a chance against Denver in this poll because the majority of City-Data members are biased against southern cities and would never vote for one.

Just look at the Denver vs. Atlanta competition. Atlanta is a city that:

1. Has more to do, more shopping, more restaraunts, nightlife.
2. More diversity
3. Much closer proximity to higher quality beaches.
4. Much closer proximity to way more major cities.
5. Better airport.
6. With the exception of ATL's short hot summer better weather.
7. Way more green space.
8. Way prettier more interesting terrain. (If you don't include the Mts. which aren't actually part of Denver)
9. About the same density and amount of urban development.
10. Better Skyline.
11.Better public transit (I know RTD's coming a long way but not yet a match for MARTA).

But despite all of this Denver wins by a landslide. Many of the voters were people that have never been to Atlanta but were quoting typical stereotypes about the city as reasons they preferred Denver.

You can't fault people for having opinions.

I've spent a ton of time in Denver, a decent chunk of time in Atlanta, and live in Houston. I'd STILL rank Denver #1. But it's just my opinion.

What? I'm sure no one in the Atlanta Thread said any (or most) of that stuff about Denver. Denverites for the most part aren't the kind of people to brag about something if they don't have that something in larger quantities than the other place thats being compared.

Why was Atlanta brought into this though?

Just out of curiosity, what are all these things you can do in houston that cannot be done in Denver? You have NASA, but we have far more Intel jobs, and satellites are made and tested here. You have a bigger med. center, but we have an up and coming Med campus as well! We have FAR MORE light rail. A bigger airport ( i know you have 2). We have beaches (on lakes and reservoirs). We have far better scenery. Our downtown is more happening. You have a better broadway scene, but we have the 2nd largest PAC in the US behind only NYC's. We have any type of food that you do. My point is, there is really nothing that can be done in one, and not the other! Is Denver the better educated, and far more fit city? Yes! Do you make more in Denver? Yes! Do we have far cleaner air? Yes! Do you have a Red Rocks? No! Do you have a ski resort like Winter Park? No. Ski train? No. I could go on and on.
