The Florida sun IS much brighter than AZ, NM, CA or any other state because Florida is located much further south and the sun hits Florida at a much more direct angle therefore resulting in the sun being much brighter and more powerful here than it is in the western states.....

Florida also holds the record for the most consecutive days of sunshine at 768....

Florida is the Sunshine State.
Good point about the southern latitude of the state.

go to yuma in july and say the sun isn't intense - that's crazy

not a cloud in the sky and the sun seems to peak about 4pm

at 7am the sun is on you and it's 100 degrees, at 4 pm the sun is still on you and it's 110, at 7pm the sun is just starting to relent a little and it's still over 100

AZ just gets an insane amount of sun and it gets it in all portions of the state - even way up at that little grand canyon thingy

I dont know about that , most of the time the sun still hurt my eyes with sunglasses on and my visor down and Ive heard a couple different Californians say that the sun is brighter in Albuquerque. That high elevation sun really beats down on you.

Florida is the Sunshine State.
When I lived their that was total opposite.
It rained almost every afternoon dude.

Sooooooo... New Mexico is the Sunshine state..
We get less rain, were not humid either...

We are higher in elevation!

All I know is FLORIDA STOLE IT.. No Originality, thats all I have to say.

Most of the voters on this poll, probably have never been to New Mexico..
Or for that matter didnt know we were actually the "Sunshine State" till Florida stole it.

Its alright we had a backup... Land of Enchantment baby!

Florida has the most sunshowers of ANY state. I remeber seeing so many sunshower when I lived down there, I used to think they were so cool, still do actually. I read that AZ, CA, NM, TX, and NV all recieve more sunshine then Florida, and Florida is 6th. So they can certainly make there case. Floridas position in the south and it's angle to the sun give it an advantage from what I read also. I also read that Saint Pete FL and the Tampa Bay Metropolitan area averages somewhere around 230 days of sunshune a year, that's how Saint Pete got it's name "Sunshine City" and that's how the west coast of Florida got the name the Sun Coast.

I'm guessing you lived on the Atlantic Coast or S. Fla. The Sun Coast gets a lot more sun than than SE FL does.

It rains for about 10 min then the clouds clear away.....unlike other places where the clouds stick around for an entire day.

Well if CA could be happy with one or two nicknames instead of having to take every possible thing they could think up, then other states wouldn't have to bicker over the other nicknames.

I have been to New Mexico by the way..... to the balloon fiesta in Albuquerque.... really nice time to visit a nice place.

Arizona has the most sun by far. California actually is pretty cloudy, even coastal Los Angeles.
