Default Nashville vs Atlanta vs Austin

Is Nashville underrated when it comes to the being the new queen of the South. Can Atlantan appreciate the utopia city of Austin before it runs out of water and civility. Nashville has some powerful universities just like Austin and Atlanta.

See, the thing is we aren't running out of water. That was a 100 year drought we went through, along with the rest of the Piedmont Southeast - and it is effectively over for us.

The lakes are full, and we are waaaaaay ahead of normal rainfall for the year.

Care to explain your thoughts on Atlanta running out of civility? I see no more signs of that here than I do in any other large metro.

Will people start flocking to Savannah for civility?

What? Do you really consider that as an answer to my question?

Sorry, but you aren't making much sense.

I actually prefer Nashville and Austin to Atlanta and I've lived in both Nashville and Atlanta. Atlanta is great for hustle and bustle, for lots of "things to do." But in terms of quality of live, Atlanta can't touch Nashville and Austin. Here's what I mean:

Bike trails- I love bike trails, but if I want close access to them from my home if I lived in Atlanta, I'd have to live in the Freedom Park area, live in Peachtree City (both of which are very expensive), live in Smyrna, or live far out in Suwanee. And even that doesn't get me bike access to downtown. Nashville and Austin have bike trails which run THROUGH downtown, and trails in the suburbs. Nashville even has two, count them, two pedestrian bridges over the Cumberland River, and Austin has their pedestrian bridge over Town Lake downtown.

Natural quality of life- Nashville and Austin both have scenic rivers which run through downtown and activities along the river. Atlanta has the Chattahoochee, which doesn't run through downtown, and which isn't nearly as embraced by the public as the Cumberland and Town Lake. Add area lakes to the analysis and we see Atlanta with Lake Lanier, which you've got to drive pretty far out of town to get to, and which is going to usually be crowded if you go on the weekend. Austin has Lake Travis and Nashville has Percy Priest Lake and Old Hickory Lake, both basically within 20 minutes of downtown and both with "elbow room" to enjoy the lake.

Traffic- 'Nuff said.

Arts scene- All 3 have plays and symphonies and festivals. Of course Nashville has the best July 4th celebration on the river and Austin has the best live music scene. Nashville has its 2nd street with a cluster of bars and live music all walkable and Austin has its 6th Street with a cluster of bars and live music all walkable. Atlanta has nothing to compare- you've go to leave one spot and drive somewhere else to another.

State Capitols- All 3 are capitals and have capitol buildings. Austin and Nashville incorporates a good amount of green space surrounding their capitol buildings and are both perched atop a hill with scenic views. Atlanta skimps on the park space and doesn't offer much of a view.

Sports scene- all 3 have a good college sports scene. Atlanta wins on pro sports with football, basketball, baseball, and hockey. Nashville has football and hockey. Austin doesn't have pro sports, but the San Antonio Spurs are within an hour's drive.

Atlanta does win out on variety of restaurants and amount of shopping and amount of night clubs. If you're not into night clubs, that part doesn't matter much. If you're into shopping, Nashville and Austin have good indoor and outdoor shopping available, just not as many destinations as Atlanta. If you're into ethnic foods, Atlanta pretty much wins.

So overall, that's why I say quality of life is better in Nashville and Austin. And both have a reasonable population for their water source. Neither city has to get into struggles and battles and wars with surrounding states to make sure that it can continue to have enough water to service its residents.

This isn't even a contest. Atlanta wins hands down, followed by Nashville at a distant second.

So Nashville and Austin are better overall cities to live in then Atlanta. Both cities have everything that Atlanta has. Charlotte , Nashville and Austin are planning their city the right way.

Last time I checked, Nashville nor Austin had top nightlife, any form of rail transportation, have a large gay population, some of the top attractions in the country, an architecturally diverse skyline, good shopping, better parks, I can go on and on and on.
