There are so many museums I have yet to been to.

Of those I have, at least in the States, my favorite is the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met)

I'm not big on Modern Art so I could care less about a lot of the Musems we've got. But the Met is nice classical art, love it. Last time I went to NY I spent 3 days roaming the Met.

I'm more of a non-modern art fan myself, so my favorite U.S. art museums would be the Met, Philadelphia Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Fine Art in Boston and the National Gallery in DC.

The Brooklyn Museum has the 3rd best Egyptology collection in the world, after Cairo and the British Museum.

I have been to the Moma, The Met, and the Guggenheim in NYC and enjoyed them all.
I also like the Seattle Art Museum and Seattle asian art museum in Seattle.

Its great to see another Native New Yorker being able to see great cities and culture exists in many other places other than NYC and caring about places too. (Based on your post in the Seattle vs. Atlanta vs. Charlotte vs.Austin thread.) It seems like a majority of New Yorkers are actually like us.
Seattle's art museum is pretty weak IMO. Even with the recent expansion I really expected more out of it. It's honestly comparable to the endowment of the Pebody Essex Museum in Salem, MA (PEM | Peabody Essex Museum) which is impressive for an outskirting city of Boston, but Seattle for a major city should step it up. I know Seattle has the Asian Art museum, but the SAM alone was underwhelming.

Denver has a very impressive art museum for a city of its size, 7 levels and a very impressive recent expansion. I spent about 5-6 hours taking that in.

Philadelphia is one of my favorites, and I would have thought it would be ranked higher than #10, a lot higher.

Santa Fe and Albuquerque have a very impressive endowment of art. The Albuquerque museum of Art and History is very stimulating for a mid sized city. Lots of Native American and Frontier art, as well as a retro collection from the days of Rte 66. Santa Fe has several art and history museums. Though they are small, when one buys a museum pass, a tourist could easily fill up a whole weekend looking at art in the museums and galleries there.

If and when I go to NYC again, it will be to see the Met, I'm sure it would blow my mind. I went the the Louvre in Paris at age 14, and of course did not appreciate it at that age like I would now.

Art Institute of Chicago definitely seemed like a top 5 museum.
