I appologize for not naming new london/groton. Nice old New England city with its ferries, river, sailfest, submarines ect. I grew up 15 minutes away in Westerly.

Also, my list was only a partial.

Not including Boston.....for me it's a tie between Burlington and Portland.
I live near Burlington and it's just gorgeous. The lake, the downtown, restaurants, shops, scenery etc. It is definately a unique New England city.
Portland is great too. The smell of the ocean air, the islands, ferry rides, lobster, the Old Port, the Prom, etc.

I'll suggest some to start.....

- Burlington
- Portland
- Bangor
- Nashua
- Manchester
- Cambridge
- Quincy
- Lowell
- Taunton
- Fall River
- New Bedford
- Worcester
- Springfield
- Providence
- Pawtucket
- Newport
- Warwick
- Hartford
- Bridgeport
- Stamford
- New Haven

you get the picture...and share some of yours!
Great list (except for Bridgeport...how did it get on there?); I would have to add Northampton, MA.

..some of these cities are not particularly attractive ( New Bedford, Fall River, Bridgeport, Hartford, etc).

..but then again, I'm biased, too, because I grew up there. Portland has some great things about, as you mentioned, (Old Port, the Promenade, etc), but Burlington's neighborhoods are more attractive for family living.

Portsmouth, NH. I love the architecture of downtown. It's like stepping back in time.

Hmm, guess I'm a bit different.

I like Pittsfield and East Longmeadow, MA. Manchester VT. Keene NH. Guilford and Clinton CT. Orange and Milford CT. Pretty much any area along Cape Cod and up into Plymouth, MA.

Apparently I'm not big on any areas of ME or RI.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what area(s) of MA were used in the movie "The Proposal". Nice scenery.
