In NC, there are three options: Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro. Time Warner Cable arena in Charlotte seats over 18K, RBC Center in Raleigh seats over 19K, and Greensboro Coliseum seats over 23K. Outside of Phillips Arena in Atlanta, what arena in Georgia comes that close in seating capacity? And please don't even fix your mouth to say James Brown Arena, LOL; it only seats half of our smallest major arena in NC!
It's not all about seating capacity. There are several venues in Atlanta that draw major acts, including The Fox (5,000); Atlanta Civic Center (4,600); Chastain Amphitheater (7,000); The Tabernacle (3,000). You're also overlooking a few larger arenas that draw major concerts:

1. Lawrence Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem...14,500...Elton John, Dave Matthews, Garth Brooks, Billy Joel, Cher, etc.

2. Arena at Gwinnett Center in Metro Atlanta...13,100...Bruce Springsteen, Green Day, Christina Aguilera, The Who, Gloria Estefan, The Eagles, Martina McBride, Avril Lavigne, etc.

3. Aaron's Amphitheater at Lakewood in Atlanta...19,000...Fleetwood Mac, Tina Turner, R.E.M., Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Sting, Gwen Stefani, Linkin Park, The Who, Cold Play, Pearl Jam, Green Day, etc.

4. Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Metro Atlanta (Alpharetta)...12,000...The Eagles, Tom Petty, Stone Temple Pilots, Foreigner, Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, Earth Wind & Fire, etc.

It really is neck and neck, just depends on personal preference.

Atlanta CSA: 5.63 million
Piedmont Crescent: Charlotte 2.3million + Triangle 1.6million + Triad 1.5 million= 5.4 million

Still very close.
Exactly...throw in Asheville, Wilmington, and Fayetteville and Atlanta is still almost as large - as large as every major metro in N.C. combined. And that's not even counting the other medium-sized cities in Georgia like Augusta, Columbus, Savannah, Athens, Macon, and Albany.

I'm not for either state, as I have lived about half my life in each one. But for someone to make a statement like "NC wins hands down not just by numbers but quality" is just silliness. N.C. doesn't actually win by the numbers, and quality is subjective.

I guess I didnt finish my thoughts correctly I meant Georgia has the raw numbers. It probally has more of everything that NC has but NC has the quality. Better Schools(Even though its not by that much), better police better quality cities. There are many polls that rank NC way higher than GA. NC is a very diverse state and progressive while Georgia is stuck and not really moving anywhere. So you'll get a more quality living experience in NC. And I lived in NC for 16 years and GA for 5 so I not coming from nowhere with this.

Still, quality is subjective...someone might find MAJOR quality in Rome, GA and choose it over every NC city (Rome is a beautiful little city, by the way). It all depends on individual taste and desires.

Both states have some excellent universities...NC has more total schools, but GA matches up well for the ones it has - Emory is ranked a few spots below Duke and a few spots above Wake Forest; NC has one public university in the top 20 (UNC) and GA has two (Ga Tech and UGA); GA has better HBCUs (#1 Spelman and #3 Morehouse); both have fairly equal arts schools (SCAD and UNCSA); etc...

In what way is Georgia "stuck"? I can't figure that one out...

NC's run by Democrats. GA is run by Republicans. To me, that means NC wins. But, that's just my opinion.

Yep, in terms of history, urbanity, tourism, etc.

And all of those are probably larger, more modern, and upgraded than James Brown Arena and whatever facilities are in Columbus and Macon.

Michael Vick is not even the quaterback anymore. Which would be the main pull in Atlanta major sports teams.

You haven't visited GA 2nd tier cities in who knows when or if ever? So how do you know what's all happening here in 2009.
Michael who? Nobody is thinking about the dog-torturer anymore...the Falcons are a much better team without him, and we have a better quarterback than him. The Falcons and Hawks were both good last year, and both look to be better this year. I think there is more to tempt sports fans toward Atlanta than Michael whats-his-name.

People travel to Atlanta for a a fun weekend when they live as close as Augusta. I lived in Greensboro, and my friends and I would come to Atlanta every time we got a chance - just to party and get away. You don't really need a reason when you live in a Greensboro or an Augusta.

Not sure what they mean by that one, but I believe that NC is definitely more progressive than GA. I think that's a practical result of having major population centers distributed fairly evenly throughout the state as opposed to just having one very massive population center and a few much smaller ones.
