I'm going with Alabama. Mississippi is the poorest state in the nation and very backward compared to other states in the south such as Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina.

How is Mississippi backward? I'm not trying to start an argument. I really do want to know in what way(s) you think Mississippi is backward.

Mississippi is dead last in education. And way up there in obesity. Among other more subjective reasons...

Backwards...meaning they think in terms of "old south", it's still very segregated compared to other southern states, and it's not very developed.....

...and #1 in the U.S. for diabetes and high blood pressure. Mississippi has the lowest per capita personal income, and is the poorest state in the U.S. More than half of the population in Mississippi lives in rural areas.

Those are a couple of reasons that people continue to view Mississippi as backwards...although it is forward-thinking enough to have legalized gambling, which has turned cities like Biloxi and Tunica into tourist destinations. I'm sure it has created major revenue for a state that really needs it.

Of course, every place is a mixture of good and bad. Mississippi has some beautiful areas.

Your posting is far too vague.

Please see the room sticky about posting guidelines: http://www.city-data.com/forum/city-...e-posting.html

If you wish to compare two (or more) areas, you should have a reason for comparison such as comparing economies, best or worst educational systems, weather, recreational amenities, etc. Not JUST "which is best?".

I'm leaving this thread up as-is instead of deleting it because there are some nicer photos posted above by someone, but please read over the sticky before creating new comparisons.

Thank you
