SF just winds by a landslide.
La has one of the most pathetic skylines in America, even with it being the 2nd largest city in America.
SF has a really impressive skyline
How is L.A.'s skyline pathetic?

I'm not impressed with the buildings in SF nor the density/design of LA. I am not a big fan of the suburban vibe in Cali either, but if I had to pick between LA and SF - SF gets this one hands down. While SF seems like one of the unfriendliest cities for high rise developers, it at least gets points for density (even though the buildings are all boxy and brown). LA has better looking buildings individually but the DT/FD cluster is a lackluster experience (in person and photo). I wish SF would open up to Vancouver/Seattle design/density/modern/glass look and go big...great potential in SF.

San Francisco is far from "suburban". Its the second densest major city in the country.

San Francisco already has, the area south of market is not zoned to allow glass condo towers. Additionally, there are plans to build a new tallest tower as part of the Transbay project.

You are correct - I didn't mean to insinuate that SF was a suburban vibe, that was aimed at SoCal/LA. I like SF a lot but still think they are skyscraper unfriendly.

How is it skyscraper unfriendly when it is near the top of the list for amount of skyscrapers of any u.s. city? It is a good amount ahead of seattle as well lol.

I live in the LA area but think that San Francisco has the best skyline due to the ocean & bay that surround the city. Plus many buildings in San Francisco aren't really that tall but the high hills make them look tall.

Definately the L.A. skyline for me, plus individually the L.A. skyscrapers are far more attractive imo.
