Hahaha yeah right. You wish! If anything, we have the past of being one of the nation's largest cities. Anyway, I don't see Birmingham enjoying any pro sports teams!
Actually their populations (metro) are very very close1.2mill. City proper, they are also very close.

Well great, but the city of Buffalo's density is nearly twice that of Birmingham, while the metro includes only a portion of our binational metroplex spilling into Canada through one of the world's busiest border crossings. Once being the 8th largest city with a max population count of near 600,000, Buffalo still has today it's major league sports teams and a lot of the beautiful architecture and density left. Just sayin.

Was it "spilling" into Canada or "fleeing" into Canada? jk, that was a joke. But seriously, you can't refer to Buffalo as the 8th largest city in the US. I believe the 8th largest city ranking belongs to Atlanta and Buffalo is 47th or so.
I think we all know when referring to major cities you speak of the metro. I also wouldn't overlook the fact that Birmingham is growing at a healthy rate being the second largest financial center in the South while Buffalo has been declining in population.
Sorry, just reread your post, I thought you were saying it's currently the eigth largest city. Disregard portions of my antagonistic post!
I live in Baltimore, lived in Boston, and visited Buffalo many times. Well, if you have the bucks and can afford living in Boston, Boston wins this one hands down. It is a great city. Baltimore is fine for me. I can afford to live in a decent neighborhood in the city and enjoy the benefits. It has the cohesion I enjoy in a city. Buffalo? Well, like I said, I have been there and know that there are supporters out there but for me, no thanks. It is on the level of Detroit to me--hardly anyone walking around, a lousy economy, and all of the entrapments of city living with none of the benefits. Sorry.
Buffalo is actually a fun town if you are going there for a weekend. You can take in Chippewa St, Niagra Falls, and Anchor Bar and have a nice little weekend on the cheap. I think tailgating at Bills games is a good time as well - they let you stay in the parking lot overnight for like $10!!!!
