Yes, and many of those Chicago people drive to lakes in Michigan.

I've only spent minimal time in Detroit's suburbs, but they seemed sprawling, bland, and boring to me. At least the one that I went through.

That's wonderful. But the Twin Cities is closer to the Northwoods/lake country than Detroit is. That's why it gets my vote.

I can drive from Detroit's suburbs to lake country in 45 minutes. And that's not counting the suburbs that have many lakes within their boundaries.
