Detroit wins for sure. Try "tree growing out of a crackhouse" or "urban farming" to give yourself an idea. Actually makes, for a cool, livable, tranquil city, believe it or not.
I'd vote Atlanta and Pittsburgh, too. Despite its density, DC has many forested neighborhoods, too. St. Paul's not too shabby in the tree department either, but we're about to get pounded by the emerald ash borer .
Folks, don't be fooled by photos taken from an elevation looking out across a city. That angle will make ANY city look like a green urban oasis. Even my hometown of Lubbock, Texas looks like an Amazon jungle when the horizon is viewed from 15 floors up.
For what its worth, Portland has the largest urban forested park in the nation, and there are some pretty dense green areas throughout the city.
