New counties can be added/subtracted between official Censuses. Truth be told, even the extra counties that are part of the MSA already (i.e., York, Gaston) still have wide swaths of rural areas in them. Perhaps Lancaster County might be added back soon or Lincoln County, but I certainly don't see how an extra four counties will be added.

What about Anson county being part of the current MSA? How rural is that county?

It is not about which county is more developed (or rural), it is about commuting patterns into neighboring MSA counties. By this rule, Chester, Cleveland, Lincoln, Iredell, Lancaster, Stanly, and Rowan county are all possible candidates. It is all based on the commutes.

If I were to guess, I would say Lancaster, Lincoln, Iredell, and Chester will be added to the MSA. Hickory's metro could very well merge with Charlotte's to form a larger 16 county CSA. This (a merger) has already happened with Orlando and Daytona Beach if I am not mistaken.

And just for the record, have you ever been to Omaha? Seriously. I am just curious. If you have, you would know just how rural most of the MSA counties are in their 8 county MSA. If you think our suburban counties here in the "QC" are rural, you haven't seen anything yet my friend.

So, About the contradicting thing, ok yeah I guess I did. I actually didn't end up posting correctly what I was trying to say, it was a bit late & the valerian tea was kicking in. I didn't even look at my post after I posted it, I just passed out.

So im from Omaha... born and raised til I was 24 (now 27) I lived in a very urban area, walked and took the bus everywhere. I lived on the outskirts of the "ghetto" and saw a thing or too in my life to say I have street smarts. Honestly, Charlotte seems like my kind of city... as far as culture and people go. I wish Omaha was more reconized, I truly think it's an awesome city. Now living in Portland, OR.. I feel is lacking much of what Omaha has and vice versa... Ok gotta stop here, got places to go and people to see. Much love people -L

passenger numbers in 2008-

Charlotte/Douglas Intl.-34.7 million--8th busiest in the country
Albuquerque Sunport-6.4 million
Omaha/Epply Field -4.4 million

we cant really be comparing airports here, Charlottes blows away every city in America except for 7 of them.

Glad you like it! It is the angle seen from the HOV lane of I-77 South Bound. Everyone that drives into Uptown Charlotte from the north sees that angle. Some folks will swerve in and out of their lanes because they are too busy staring at the buildings.

Here are some photos of the Myers Park neighborhood. This is one of Uptown Charlotte's oldest suburbs.

Is this better?
Well, if you use the 3 counties that are actually Urban, you get this, 746,056 in 1,541 square miles, and all of those 3 counties aren't even close to being fully developed.
