I think my area is in a good location. It's within 6 hours of NYC, Philly, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Cleveland, Washington DC, Ottawa and Baltimore, among other major cities. It's within an hour and a half from the Adirondacks. It's less than an hour from the Finger Lakes. Less than an hour from Lake Ontario.
This is the best location in North America. On the Canadian side you have Quebec, Montreal, Ottowa, and Toronto. On the US side you have Boston, Philadelphia, New York, and Washington. They even match up well.
Ottowa - Washington (Capitals)
Quebec - Boston (Historic, Pseudo-European cities)
Toronto - New York (Largest and most significant cities)
Montreal - Philadelphia (Similar size, but not much else. Honestly this one was just process of elimination.)
An ideal place would be in the focal point of this.
Most cities are what they are because of their location. Maybe there is a flaw in my logic, but it seems that the larger a city is, the better its location is. There's a reason NYC is the nation's largest city. It's a good natural harbor, near many natural resources, some natural beauty, and it's in the middle of the Bos-Wash corridor.

You are right for the most part. Places like Phoenix defy this in modern terms, but it had to make sense at the time.
I think those modern terms are what we're judging by here, though. "What city's location is best today," I guess.
