But there were people on here saying hip hop has southern roots, which is not true. Hip hop is the most urban form of music available
Oh brother!!I don't think anyone on here has said Hip Hop is Southern.Hip Hop was created out of a music form that existed before it.You can no more dismiss the the influence of Jazz and Blues as you can the nature of those origins that came from Africa.Jazz and Blues begot ,Ragtime,Country,Rock,Gospel,R&B,Soul,Pure Soul,Neo-Soul,Disco,then came Hip Hop.Do you think " "rappers" were the first to spit rhymes?Do you know what "call and response is"?
There is culture and sub culture.Hip Hop is a sub culture. Its and off shoot of black culture from its creation from the slave ships as they crossed the middle passage. They were not allowed to practice their culture from Africa. So they created ways that they could hide what they were doing by mixing their songs and beats with their European master's religion and ways that were a part of everyday life..

When it comes to R&B, I doubt there are many places that top Motown.

Detroit gets kicked around a lot, but it's hard to dismiss their contribution to R&B.

Some of those points are ridiculous. Hip hop an off shoot of black slave culture? Hip hop was created in the seventies in a much different environment than the south

Where are the jazz and blues influences? Hip hop sounds nothing like any of those genres. Why is it so hard to believe that somethig can be original

We dont know where he got the term from. Regardless if they both share the name rap. Joe tex sounds nothing like rap they have no musical connection what so ever. I just showed you what tex does, and how it sounds nothing like rap.
