Detroit has a VERY overlooked scene.

I'm saying this as a NY cat who see's the obvious. Personally I think the best hip hop being made right now is coming from three cities; Detroit, Los Angeles, and Toronto. Albeit you may not hear it on your local radio stations, the artists coming out of those cities are really putting it down right now.

The best rap music comes from Houston Texas, hands down. Z-ro Big Moe, Dj Screw, Fat Pat, the real music of rap.

hahaha, omg you just proved the point I want to make. Well if you go over to the Texas forum you'll see a bunch of local boosters claiming that Houston has influenced hip hop 100 fold and has produced some of the best rappers ever. Not to say no good rappers have come from there or no good music but when compared to New York, Atlanta, LA, Chicago, Houston just isn't on that same level. I would say the popularity and influence of Houston rap has been waning for quite some time. Yes, I know I'm from Dallas but I'm in now way a Houston basher, just keepin it real like we're all trying to do right? Having said that about Houston though Dallas imo has THE WORST wannabe hip hop, and poorest lyrically challenged rappers. I can't stand no more stanky leg or flex or ice cream paint job or whatever the crap is hot right now. Ridiculous and trite are terms that come to mind. Sorry for the rant

^^^ sibling rivalry lol

I like the diversity in music nowadays. I can't rock with one city's style over another. Cause its individual to me. This year was great... Jay and Fab surprised me. I think NY is ready for a comeback... Houston rap got a flavor that I can vibe with sometimes. My friend from Texas forced it upon us and I must say its rather catchy. Not all songs are meant to be chopped and screwed though....

Chicago gets this one. I mean come on, Kanye West has had a great success with his latest music and he is a producer as well who helps other rappers become famous. And of course we cannot forget the undisputed king of R&B Mr. R. Kelly is from Chicago as well. To name a few more we got Twista, Common, Lupe Fiasco etc.
