My wife's family is from NY. One aunt lives in the Village. The rest are in the Bronx (Riverdale snobs?). They tend to think that anything west of the Mississippi is full of Viking savages or some other uncivilized groups.

Most of the New Yorkers I meet seem to need to tell me they are from NY within the first few minutes of meeting them. As if I really care and as if I can't usually tell due to da accent. Fuggedahboudit!
