Miami if living in a fun place now is your top priority. Dallas if paying off your mortgage early and building a super duper fat retirement nest egg is your top priority.

Dallas is a far more livable city IMO.

For people born in Asia:
Houston 245,000
Dallas 230,000
Miami 104,000

For people born in Europe:
Miami 135,000
Houston 54,000
Dallas 50,000

And here is some addition information on the Houston and Dallas MSA's demographic trend. The Data below is for 2000-2007. I have data for all of the Houston area counties, but not for the DFW area counties, so bear that in mind:

Dallas area

Collin County Total gain- 207,176 White Gain: 99,096 Black Gain: 26,944 Asian gain: 35,834 Hispanic Gain 42,912
Dallas County Total Gain: 126,826 White Loss: -139,664 Black gain: 33,058 Asian gain: 15,357 Hispanic gain: 221,832 Denton County Total Gain: 151,262 White Gain: 74,506 Black Gain: 15,295 Asian Gain: 14,986 Hispanic Gain: 41,487 Tarrant County Total Gain: 225,076 White Gain: 31,307 Black Gain: 44,605 Asian Gain: 18,331 Hispanic Gain: 129,308

Houston area
Brazoria County Total Gain: 46,131 White Gain: 10,363 Black Gain: 10,027 Asian Gain 7,274 Hispanic Gain: 17,628
Fort Bend County Total gain: 138,735 White Gain: 31,662 Black Gain: 32,575 Asian Gain: 32,832 Hispanic Gain: 37,973 Galveston County: Total gain: 33,393 White Gain: 15,056 Black Gain: 1,049 Asian Gain: 2,795 Hispanic Gain: 12,485
Harris County: Total gain: 485,629 White Loss -4,677 Black Gain: 95,933 Asian Gain: 35,369 Hispanic Gain: 364,560 Montgomery County: Total gain: 104,522 White Gain: 64,104 Black Gain: 7,022 Asian Gain: 3,873 Hispanic Gain: 29,027

As you can see, African Americans prefer the Houston area. If I had all the data for Kaufman and Ellis Counties (to complete the metroplex's numbers), I think we would see the Latino Numbers on the same level for Dallas and Houston. With the Data shown the Houston area has about 25,000 more latinos. The Asian Community is growing slightly faster in the DFW metroplex according to the data as well.
Lets wait on the U.S cenus of 2010 to really see the gains of any of the stats. If you look at both history as far african american trends both gain about the same number of African Americans. Houston recived alot of African Americans from New Orleans which greatly boosted there African Americans numbers. If Katrina had never happened than we may be looking at dramatically different numbers.

Both cities need to do a better job of marketing young black professonals. Houston & Dallas metro are both on verge of hitting the 1 million mark for African Americans.

That is true. Had Katrina not happend, we would be looking at different numbers for Houston. What has surprised me more than anything is the mass exedous of whites from Dallas County being replaced by Latinos. Not a bad thing per say, just somewhat surprising.

I'm thinking that Houston has already passed the 1 million mark for African Americans. It just hasn't been official even in estimates. The latest was 979,000 and that was 2007. DFW is about 80,000 behind now and should pass it sometime in the next decade.

So Miami isn't far behind Houston and Dallas in the Asian category. Cool.
