LOL no. Philadelphia has a larger GDP than Boston and is therefore... more important. Pretty simple really.

No. Cost of living in Boston is high because it's on the coast and Philadelphia and Atlanta are not. It's really that simple. It has nothing to do with being more desirable.

Baltimore is about 100 miles from the nearest beach. You have the Chesapeake Bay,Eastern shore and the state of Delaware to pass thru till you get to the coast . Good location but not coastal. Alot of land between Baltimore and the Atlantic Ocean, more than Philadlephia.

The median home price in Stone Harbor NJ is $1.2 M , Avalon $1.1 M. Cape May.Sea Isle, Wildwood Crest,Ocean City all have crazy median SF Bay Area Prices pushing $1 M.. These towns are summer resorts dominated by the Philadlephia region. They should be considered part of the Philly region but they are not.

Thats the type of economy Philadlephia misses out on and in addition when you throw in the fact that there is 50 miles of real estate in between Philly + the coast there becomes obvious implications to cost of living indexes.

Its not that the Philaldephia is any less desirable than cities with higher C.O.L. indexes, theres just too much real estate, too many options that help keep costs and economic statistics lower.

Maybe he/she thinks driving 30 minutes longer to a beach constitutes less desirable?

Seems like Boston is more obsessed with status than Philadelphia. Could be Philly's Quaker past of generally not giving a **** versus Boston's Puritan/provincial attitudes.

At worst, Philadelphia and Boston are both tied. Boston people seem more uptight and stuck up in general though. Maybe they're jealous Philadelphia has the better history and took some championships for the Patriots and Bruins to get fans.

Tit for tat, if we are using the Bay area for SF, we might as well for the other two, and by that metric Boston passes Philly but still behind Houston and SF

2013 Combined Statistical Area(CSA) Gross Product
New York-Newark $1.683 Trillion
Los Angeles-Long Beach $999.661 Billion
San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland $664.687 Billion
Washington-Baltimore-Arlington $657.039 Billion
Chicago-Naperville $597.805 Billion
Houston-The Woodlands $517.367 Billion
Boston-Worcester-Providence $514.586 Billion

Dallas-Ft Worth $451.436 Billion
Philadelphia-Reading-Camden $429.838 Billion
Atlanta-Athens-Clarke County-Sandy Springs $314.759 Billion
Seattle-Tacoma $309.577 Billion
Miami-Ft Lauderdale-Port St Lucie $297.071 Billion

Someone let this guy know that one premise of this thread is that the CSA only makes sense for the Bay Area only and its been discussed on this forum ad nauseam.

Philadelphia's doesn't include Trenton or Allentown, yet Boston's includes Providence.

Nice try!
