For all that rich history a lot of people are having a hard time recognizing names from there.

Austin has a hip-hop scene? I know people like Bavu Blakes and a couple of others. But that's about it.

And Gerald G and Rapid Ric and Ryno. Yes, Austin has a scene. It's just small and not nearly as dominate like Houston.

Yeah well, if you're into rap from Houston, you won't recognize groups from Boston Especially if you're only like 17 years old and might not know classic rock groups.

I'm not the only one. And i'm not 17...i'm 20. And I keep up with plenty of older music. I also listen to Keith Whitley, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Ray Charles, and much more. So I don't think age is my problem.

Not that big of a difference. Then you should at least know who The Cars are, Tracy Chapman, Boston, New Edition are.

Trust me, during this section of a person's life three years makes a hell of a lot of difference lol.

I've heard of Boston but don't know much more than they are a music group. And I am familiar with new edition because they are more my style of music. I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan though and I didn't know they were from Boston until you just told me.

Well, I guess people won't know some bands/singers if they aren't played that often at all in their area of the country. It also depends on their age and taste in music obviously. For example, my mom says Billy Joel is hardly played down in Florida. Here in NY, him and Bruce Springsteen are played all the time since they're from the area.

by the way, here's my favorite performance of The Cars, and a well known song by them. You guys might know them if you hear the song. One of my top 3 favorite songs ever

YouTube - The Cars- Live Aid 1985 - "Just What I Needed"

Well that's obviously not the case. All those groups I listed are multimillion selling groups - some like Extreme only sold 10 million albums while others like the Cars and Aerosmith are rock legends. I'd say between them all, they probably sold a billion albums.

Generational differences certainly accounts for your unfamiliarity with many of the groups I've listed. When I look at the Billboard Top 40 these days I hardly know anyone listed there either.

I'm open minded, but I suspect Houston cannot produce a musical resume in league with BOS.
