The pentagon?

Really though, in my particular "City" it would be Tysons Corner Mall, with 2.4 Million Sq ft. "City" is in quotes because most of the areas in Fairfax County, VA are actually just the county. I think our biggest city maybe has 30K, but there's a million people here.

Yeah the Pentagon is supposedly one of the worlds largest buildings in sq ft...I'm guessing in my city it would be a 500,000-700,000 sq ft medical tower!

bhj867 is on a distinguished road
Harrisburg Illinois it would more than likely be the 205,000 sq ft Super Wal-mart we just built. Second would be Harrisburg High School, 3 stories and takes up an 3 city blocks.
In Carrier Mills it's probably the Grade School.

The largest free-standing building in the world is the Boeing plant outside of Seattle, (Everett), at 4.3 million square feet, floor area, but 472 million cubic feet in volume. Nothing comes close from a volume standpoint. So, while the OP was asking about square feet, there are different definitions of what "largest" means. (Please no double entendres here!)

I would have to say the The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC) is the largest exhibition center in the Northeast United States, with some 1,700,000 square feet (15,8 hectare)
