Do you think Philadelphia is Overrated? (live, better, crime, compare)

Do You? It has no food scene or world status most of it looks rundown and it's skyline looks like a wannabe New York with those 2 looking Chrysler buildings. and it's kinnda boring and lacks nightlife and attractions. So why do people praise it. Don't know it's overrated.

I actually don't hear Philadelphia praised very often. If anything, I'd say it's underrated.

Funny that you made this cause i actully just got back from philly and i didnt know much about it until today. Im closer to NYC and was raised in queens so i usually go hang out there but me and my gf were feeling spontanious today so we took a little field trip out. I had a good time, its nice. First off i saw so many unique little restaurants that we wanted to eat at, but instead we decided to try a cheesesteak(she got geno's i got pats...we both agreed pats was better). Oh and i love how you can see the downtown skyline from so many spots especially coming up to philly on 95. Went to a couple cool little neighborhoods (south st area, southside philly, center city) and all had its own vibe going. We didnt stay late to drink but we did see blocks with a bunch of bars but i hear everything closes down at 2 but then i hear that a bunch of places have like some underground all night sort of deal going on..idk....all in all its no NYC(cause nothing compares) but it was a pleasent day sooo no not to overrated. we are going back soon to do the nightlife

No food or nightlife? I respectfully disagree.

And it's downtown looks nothing like New York. It has it's own character and is rich with history. I think Pilly is another city in the Northeast unfairly overlooked by New York.

Living on the West Coast I've hardly heard anyone talking about Philadelphia, unless it's about sports teams or crime...You hear much more about New York, Washington, and Boston. And I've heard just as many or more people talking about Providence and Baltimore, and meanwhile Philadelphia is the sixth biggest city in the country in terms of population.

I'd say it's underrated, at least from what I've heard from the few people I know who've lived there or people from the Mid-Atlantic region that’ve actually been there frequently. I'm going to stop for a few days in Philadelphia on a East Coast trip this fall, so I guess I be able to make a more educated decision on the city than. From what I've heard it seems to be a city that while having its share of urban problems, it still has more history than just about anywhere in the country and a beautiful skyline-- so I'd say it's definitely underrated.
