Don't forget Amsterdam's rug industry, Troy's stove industry, Elmira's fire engine industry and Canajoharie's (I think) Life Savers industry . Also, Rochester (NY) was dominated by shoe industry in its pre-Kodak days. That's where my ancestors found work when they emigrated from Europe.
