I agree, New York City is the largest and most important city in America.

Chicago is a nice city but nowhere near as important and large as New York City. Chicago could never be in the same league as New York City. But with that said Orlando is still by far the most overated city in the US.

if NYC is overrated, then every city in this country is too; which obviously includes the cities each of those insulters live in

^And therein lies the problem you fail to grasp.

If they aren't worshipping New York, they are insulters - it just can't be described as opinion or preference. It MUST be labeled as something negative.

NYC is NYC. It is neither underrated nor overrated. However I do not see the same appeal in Chicago. I consider Chi more of an overrated city.

Is New York really the "mecca" of the entire universe?

I hope so. NYC is too amazing! Seems to be underrated here in City-data. So much negativity.

Nobody said or is saying that. People tend to take things the wrong way when NY'ers use their bragging rights. We only use them when other cities claim to be near or superior to us when its not. We don't just brag on a daily basis. We just brag base on what professionals and the overall intellectual people, like some of the posters on CD.

Exactly. You took the words right out of my mouth. This is a message board about places around the country, so obviously this will be up for discussion and will come up often. It's not like we talk about how great the city is everyday in real life, even though it's something we believe in.
