In the Eighties "fah surerrr"!LOL("The Valley Girl").Then in the 90's hip hop/R&B from both NYC and L.A. were in the scene with Atlanta always somewhere in the wings(as far as music). As far as now I will go out on a limb and say Atlanta has at least "some" notoriety or at least on par in that category today with the 2 big players.

The only people who really think that are people who are younger than say 30.It was only after the mid 90's did CNN really start having more and more shows broad casted in NYC and D.C.Especially after Time Warner bought them. The headquarters still remains in Atlanta.

It's hard to underestimate CNN's influence not only in the US but around the world hence it is hard to underestimate Atlanta's weight in media.

I would think however that besides New York and LA (what the h*ll is Chicago doing on the exclusion list???) DC takes natural (it's the capital!) priority over Atlanta or any other city in the US.

I suppose it depends on what coast your on. New York has always been the center of pop culture in the east, LA takes the west. Overall for the country they are about equal IMHO

In terms of media in general though (including more "highbrow" media, journalism, and advertising), NYC definitely takes the cake.

However, this topic needs to include the Bay Area. Much of the very structure of the new media and how we interact with or become exposed to media is now the domain of companies and people based in the Bay Area.

Yeah, but that wasn't what the poster of that message insinuated. They were speaking specifically about pop culture.

The thing is that maybe you don't hear anything about Chicago in your city, but then again here in Chicago we don't hear anything about yours so....why would we focus on news that's happening in Seattle (More Starbucks and Microsoft news), Houston (oh the space shuttle launched), Atlanta (down low black men)....etc etc.
