70s would probably be New York with disco and punk, but it's hard to say any city was more influential for any decade since musical fads come and go so quickly
I disagree with that. Clearly SF in the 60's and Seattle in the 90's had more influence than either LA or New York.
I think people say Seattle because grunge was very popular and everyone knows that Seattle started that trend, but it's a stretch to say that Grunge bands "dominated" the sheer output of music from hubs NYC and L.A. Hell, even Orlando with all its ****ty teeny bop bands probably sold as well as grunge did.
This is about popular music in general, not just hip-hop...or are you saying other genres of popular music (like Rock) became stale in the late 90's and early 2000s. Because I would agree with that, although saying ATL/No for 2000's is kind of a stretch.
Overall, 2000s was kind of a bad decade for music...
