Exactly. Silt coming out of the Mississippi River, I believe.

And though South Padre probably has the state's best beaches, I still really love Galveston the city, and am happy to have it so close to Houston. The historic areas are so neat, really a treasure for Texas...

Bishop's Palace
The Menard House
1861 U.S. Custom House
The Strand and Galveston's Historic Downtown

But also the beaches are getting a lot of new development...

Pointe West
Palisade Palms

Seconded. Lived in California most of my life, and enjoyed it greatly.

However, living in Texas or Florida isn't like a really huge step-down. I'd learn to adjust eventually and enjoy it for what it is.

Those people are rude. Why can't they just NOT respond to the post.

Throw in New Mexico and you would have my favorite states.

California will always be number one because its home and the natural scenery and outdoor activities. Only place you can surf and ski in the same day and make it to the desert for dinner.

Texas is my adopted home. I love it here too.

Ive always loved Miami and Southern Florida. If I wasnt living here or California, Miami would be next on m list.

Actually I have. I have relatives living in the Tampa Bay Area and I have been to Orlando, Melbourne, and Miami at least once. I have not had the opportunity to go to Northern Florida, but you can't tell me with a straight face that the coastline is not way too over developed.

Not to mention in places like Sarasota and other places along the Gulf Coast, I swear at least half of the population is at least over 60.
