lol @ this. now ppl don't even want to acknowledge their own accent.

lol @ a southerner saying that they never heard ppl pronounce the word thing like thang, call like cowl, fall like fowl, etc.

lol @ this bull. yeah, ok.

should i post youtube clips of southerners speaking like that?
maybe i should post a skit from project pat's mista don't play??

or grab a random gucci mane song off of the net and post it. or swisha house. or soulja boy. or, etc. etc.
You are going to post video's of rappers to show a southern accent?

Great idea, ththat would be a really good representation of a southern accent. Yes, that is sarcasm if you did not figure it out.

As far as fowl and cowl, no I never heard anyone pronounce fall and call that way.

Though I used to hear call said like cawl up north and thang was around NYC 25 years ago, hardly exclusive to the south.

if you are in an area, it will be harder for you to tell that the ppl around you have accents. once you leave that area, ppl around you in whatever area you're in will let you know that you, in fact, do have an accent.

everyone on earth has an accent. i know plenty of white ppl that say:

thang, brang, etc.
one of my coworkers is from a small town in the south. i really want to record her on my iphone so that ppl can listen to her speak but i don't want to get caught...

*edit*
the only reason why i'm posting rappers is because its easy to google the rapper's name and the name of the song + the word youtube and get a direct link to the video.

youtube is blocked at work so i can't search for "average ppl."

...but i will do just that when i get home.

That was cute DJ, rep points for you . But I'll be in Philly the weekend of Halloween. Lets see how many I can bag this time off of my accent. Quite honestly the girls up your way leave allot to be desired aesthetically, so I really just do it for sport and for an ego-stroke

these are two separate occasions. i thought that two separate sentences and hitting the enter key twice would have indicated that but i guess not.

Actually people in the midwest say clerr, the only city in the south that says that is Dallas. You will need to go to Indiana, St. Louis and KCMO for that one.

and mike needs to stop hanging out with transplants and interact with locals. then again, he's in FL so he's less likely to hear what i posted unless he's hanging out in areas he probably shouldn't be in.

i once dated a girl from miami that would say stuff like chirrdren. no, she didn't have your "typical" southern accent, but the pronunciation of certain words and the drawing out of words was still there. it is what it is.
We were talking about accent not slang.

I hear accents everyday, your words never.

i'm aware of what the discussion is about.
i'm not talking about slang at all. i'm talking about the pronunciation of words.

i don't think ppl understand what slang is...

slang =

yeah son, shh is dope.
dude went over his bm's house cuz she wildin'

etc. etc.

what we're talking about is the pronunciation of words due to accent...such as:

that girl can SANG!
i'm dranking pepsi.
its not summer, its fowl right now.

etc.

here's another example. my gf's name is crystal.
i say: crystal
she says: cruhstal.

she's from the south. i'm from the north. her name is not slang. she pronounces her name differently because she's from the south and has a southern accent.
its the same as the name dawn. a person from the south would say it differently than i would. or broadway. etc. etc. southerners say brahdway.

I will post undeniable proof that I am from NYC if you promise not to post for 2 months.

Neither of them have the guts to take me up on it. My guess is you won't either.

thats a southern thing.

and a lot of ppl in ny in general don't pronounce r's, so what are you saying?

and again, we're not talking about slang, we're talking about pronunciation, so moonwalk outta here with any talk about slang.

a girl from atlanta asked me if i liked the olive "gerden" because she had never been and needed an opinion.

i was also in the airport in atl when a girl asked another girl for some wotah.

he he.

please don't make me start posting gucci mane, soulja boy, the guys who made stanky leg, etc.

omg i know atl is not serious right now with this discussion.
How about you post some real people, in real life talking like that?

Until then you have shown nothing.

The "sang"/"cruhstal" thing is a Scottish feature.
