(Although, by now, Chicago might be Oprah or Michael Jordan... one can only hope.)
Yep, I get that too.
Gangsters, cold weather, and corruption.
This city is so much more. I'd call it the most dynamic city in the country. It does feel like a city made up of cities. A lot of unique neighborhoods and vibes that you can get in this city.
Not that you can't get them in other cities, but Chicago just seems to have the widest varieties of vibes that you can get IMO.
I'm glad to see an American city hold down the number 1 spot. Congrats NYC!
Before anyone responded to this I was thinking that the basis of this list was about the most subjective and meaningless of any list I've seen here. ("Buzz" "World Status", a panel, etc) However it's apparently the best-liked list linked to so far. So I guess it does well at tapping into something and says something about who this site draws. I'm still not convinced it says much about these cities except that "if you have these interests you'll like these cities."
Congratulations to New York City for being voted the best city in the world! Also, congratulations to Chicago for cracking the top 5, which doesn’t surprise me at all. I am going to visit London and Paris one day. Also, it really shocked me that Hong Kong didn’t break the top 10.

I don't know how many of you people have been to Europe. When you tell a European that you are American, they automatically ask "NYC or Hollywood?". It is true. Texas is COWBOYS to them. Most wouldn't know Houston from Flagstaff. Florida is MICKEY MOUSE and Miami is the same as Orlando to them.
What's wrong with this? FL and TX are still known, even if they are known as COWBOYS or MICKEY MOUSE. Congratulations to NYC though.
NYC EARNED it's #1 spot, and nice VMA's NYC. But who brought up Houston? Why would you intentionally provoke people. No one from TX was angry or cared that Houston wasn't on the list, yet SOMEONE NOT from TX brought it up anyway in a negative light for NO reason. Why? But congrats to NYC and Chicago.
Tokyo is another one of those sardine cans. Plus Tokyo can't even compete with the amenities of Lake Michigan along the Chicago shore. So yeah, Chicago ahead of Tokyo makes sense. Not everybody thinks of sardine-living amidst concrete and steel (and even neon bilboards and signs) as the highest quality of life.
