But the other metros are organically circular--Miami is not a good comparison because it is forced into a line along the coast.

Uh well they would get it if the federal gov't would give out money for heavy rail systems in the nation. But that is not the case. And even though Miami has it, it has poor ridership. Houston has a higher ridership per mile than Miami and Houston has light rail to Miami's heavy rail.

Well Atlanta has them all beat when it comes to heavy rail. Even when Dallas surpasses Atlanta it still won't have the ridership numbers as Atlanta..
