la doesn't get enough respect on this list. It is, in fact, one of the six largest economies in the world ranked by metro area; along with paris, london, tokyo, new york and chicago. As of 2001 los angeles had the 16th largest gdp in the world, putting it higher than most nations - including argentina, taiwan and russia!
It is not a typical "city" in the mold of a ny or tokyo with their overwhelming skylines but it is a true megalopolis. La isn't about skyscrapers, it's about style and business and is recognized around the world as the producer of america's number one export; entertainment. I would put it right up there with new york any day of the week.
Oh, did i forget to mention that la has hosted the olympics - twice.
Please tell me how many foreign consulates are in the City of Seattle????? Probably not nearly as many as in Houston. How about Visitors and Conventions?? What makes Seattle more of a world class City than Houston?? Clam Chowder?? Maybe it's the rain? or the Ferry? Yah the ferry thats it. Is it the U.W. gee, I wonder how that school compares to Rice. Possibly its ye old curiosity shop or the Pikes place market??? Yes Seattle is a cool tech savy place but not more world class than H-town.
I wonder how many people know that Nasa has the Johnson Space center here site of Mission control. What about the fact that Houston has the 2nd largest port in the U.S. I don't want to bore anyone but just watch this vid>
Companies most people have no interaction with on a daily basis.
Im just saying, you wonder why people say Seattle is more world class(whether it is or not is not my point) and Im saying maybe its because people know more about Seattle?
You yourself mentioned everything from rain to Pikes Place. Most people I think have heard of those places and a host of other things associated with Seattle.
You'd have a harder time associating things to Houston the way you can to Seattle.
Houston has a much larger GDP, a larger economy, more connections with the international community, a growing and more diverse population, and more than Seattle. Seattle is a great city. A city that I would have no problem living in and I do consider it to be world class. But it is not in the same tier as Houston. Although it can get there. Honestly, on the real. There are only five cities IMO that are considered world class. New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. Houston and Boston and a couple other cities are outside the cut.
A lot like Minneapolis . No history, old world culture, like S.A. or Boston,
or New Orleans. No glamour like , Vegas or Chicago.
Just another large city.
