Houston is industrial and economically set. It's huge with a population larger than Philadelphia and not too terribly far behind Chicago. Why wouldn't it be the most important city in the southern region of the US?
Houston may have a great economy, but what about 50% of the movies and media on tv. That all comes from atlanta.

50%??? that's quite a claim. I think if your going to suggest that Atlanta has much media influence as LA, New York, San Fran, Seattle, Miami, and Austin combined, you should probably provide some hard evidence to back it up.

I will say Atlanta might have a slight edge in media over Houston because Houston has had a hard time keeping its music and film talent from being loured to Austin. But as far the visual arts, theater, opera, ballet, and the other "sophisticate arts," Houston has Atlanta beat hands down.

The only reason why Houston is almost with them in city population is because Houston annexed all that land look how many people live in the chicago city limits and how small the citys square footage is.

Pretty straightforward:

1. Atlanta
2. Houston
3. Charlotte
4. Miami
5. New Orleans (only because of the port)

I agree about annexation in Houston...but Chicago's area is 234 square miles - it's not a small city limits, about the same as Charlotte's. Houston is larger in area, but that doesn't mean that Chicago is small.

People don't travel. Dallas is a significantly larger and MUCH more important city than Charlotte or New Orleans.

Ummmm, C-SPAN is in DC, not Atlanta. The USA Network is out of NYC.

We may be a media powerhouse, but lets not get too carried away here.
