I thank my 4th grade teacher.
Yeah its actually pretty cool how many things exist about our Metropolitan Area that even we as locals don't know about. Before 2003 the place used to just do research on diseases, germs, plagues, bio hazardous chemicals but after 2003 they got the approval to also become a Bio Containment Laboratory as well, meaning they could house these things. It actually receives quite a good amount in NIH and its building is made to be almost unbreakable due to the hazardous threat that lies inside. And that puts the security threat level to the maximum. If those diseases, and whatnot get out, it would be chaotic. And that is very similar to Atlanta's situation as well. Which is another connection that Houston & Atlanta have with each
adavi215, you seem like you like to learn new things and I am always up for sharing what I know. I learned this in 4th grade because it affects my region directly.
Did you know the only two metros in the country where a program like CDC exist are Atlanta & Houston, and it correlates to both cities as they exchange information with each other through research and bio hazardous chemicals that are threat level and security level of red.
Houston's thing isn't called CDC (Center for Disease Control) but its just a plain Jane simple named, they call it "National Laboratory" where they experiment with Bio Hazordous chemicals and germs, and diseases and things of that nature. Only one of the two of its kind in the USA, the other being CDC in Atlanta. Galveston National Laboratory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is what puts these two metros (Houston & Atlanta) on the map more, they have things conducted there that other cities simply don't.
That is so neat. I didn't know Houston and Atlanta have something like that. Thanks for that DANNY.

Nahh I try to be a down to easy going poster and keep a lot of Houston information to myself so it doesn't come off as "arrogance" as many say Texans have or whatever, but I get smiles ready to burst with laughter whenever I see an Atlantan posting about the BAPS Shri Swami Mandir in Atlanta or CDC. I am Hindu myself but honestly I never see anyone from Houston posting how theirs was the first in North America, built 4 years before Atlanta's. I always see Atlantans saying its the largest when its barely larger than the Chicago, Toronto, & Houston ones. (Just slightly larger) And they all look very much the same in design and marble fabric structuring.
I also always see arguments for airports & CDC, and I think to myself well, we have the National Laboratory and just like CDC its Biosafety Level 4 (the highest level in security) and the only other lab like that in America is CDC in Atlanta. Which is impressive for both Metros (Houston & Atlanta) because it gives them that extra boost, and prominence.
I always see the same arguments posted and reposted on here about CDC, but I don't ever want to cut into it and start a war. I think Atlantans & Houstonians should be able to get along better than they do.
Sometimes it makes me want to share some of the "deep dark secrets" (LOL) about Houston and add new flavor to the conversation instead of the same old same old "we have the busiest airport" and then the response "oh yeah we have the busiest sea port", "we have Coca Cola" and the response "oh yeah we have NASA", and then "We have Ted Turner" and the response "Oh yeah we have George HW Bush", and then "We have CDC" and the response "Oh yeah we have TMC", and then "We have Usher" and the response "We have Beyonce" and "we have MLK" and the response "Oh yeah we have Oil & Gas". It goes on forever, never ending.
Do you see what I'm saying? I can literally tell you a 30 page conversation between an Atlantan & a Houstonian both trying to make a case for their city. It just has no flavor to it, no substance anymore. The first Atlantan & Houstonian that squared off on this site were innovative and defined the conversation. But now every poster from those two cities just repeat the same junk.
So its best to start adding new things into it. Here is another one you may have not known before until now:

The Houston area is home to three of the country's 10 largest oil refineries, and also 40% of its chemical manufacturing capacity
Yes, 40% of America's manufacturing capacity is in the Houston Metropolitan Area. Notice I highlighted the word capacity, since its talking Chemical Manufacturing and not Manufacturing overall.
Don't get me wrong, I love Atlanta, really I do. And we all here know that I love Houston but I just read this thread and for some reason I feel like that conversation from this thread I have seen before elsewhere, but where? Oh yeah every single thread that has ever involved Atlanta & Houston before.
Lets all make a pact to start listing some new things, does that sound cool? Because honestly I am no longer learning anything new anymore with all the repetitions going on.

Lets keep it Real & Original!
I totally feel you. My purpose for stating what I said about the CDC was to clear up the CDC and TMC comparison. It is an apples to oranges comparison with both areas having a different focus and mode of operation. But the same arguments do get tiresome.
Atlanta has one of the busiest airports in the world, it is also headquarters to numerous corporations, it has a large volume of international business, and it's the hub of the Southeast. Also, a lot of commodities trading is important for Atlanta.
Atlanta is not really even a city that that should be here, the city it self only have 420,000 according to the last census i don't care what the area is DC AREA is smaller than Atlanta and have 11 times the people than Atlanta maybe we should call it the Gwinnett Ga area. The city of Atlanta is really a joke, people just like the area.
